Fiber and Peat
The Neu-Coir Advantage
Neu-Coir imports the best quality coir mix for agricultural use. The product is wonderful for starting new plants and really promotes excellent root growth. Coconut Coir is a 100-percent natural by-product of harvesting coconut.
Coir consists of the coarse fibers extracted from the husk on the outer shell of a coconut. Because of its superior water holding capacity, excellent air space and drainage, coir is a useful soil amendment for potted plants, containers and gardens.
Coconut Coir media are free of weed seeds, have a lower risk of incidence of root pathogens, and facilitate optimal nutrition management of the crop.
Coco coir, derived from the coconut hull, is made from the fibrous material between the outer husk and the actual coconut.
Originally, coir was used for making cordage and ropes in ancient India. It has also been used for making mats and other flooring materials.
In the 1980s, it was first used commercially in Holland to grow roses and lilies. Because coir worked so well to promote root growth, growers started using it for hydroponic gardening in place of peat moss.
